Personal Comments on the Topic Genetic Engineering

Personally, I rather like the idea of alternative studies, it was something different from the normal way of teaching and learning. However, I wouldn't want to work and learn like this all the time, because I think that the teacher will always be able to give us more and better information than we can find out ourselves. But project weeks ever once in a while to summarise the material we were already given or to round up a quarter would be okay.

What I also liked was the fact that we were allowed to choose our own groups, better to say topic. That way, everybody was able to work on something he or she showed interest for and wasn't forced to work with people he/she didn't get along with. On the other hand, for shorter projects, it might be a good idea to have the groups made up in advance so that different people, who wouldn't necessarily chose each other, would get the chance of working together for 3 or 5 days.

About the topic of genetic engineering I can only say that I wasn't all that convinced about its significance for the course in the beginning, but I really enjoyed working with it and figuring out something about the aspect of identity in co-ordination with cloning in the group.

However, I suggest that for the next time we are given a greater perspective of what it is we are doing, so that maybe the groups could work with each other at some point of time, so that it is one big project that we do instead of a few little ones.
